O basquetebol foi introduzido no Brasil por Auguste Shaw, em 1896, professor do Mackenzie College de So Paulo.

Desde ento So Paulo se destaca no basquetebol brasileiro como um grande centro de desenvolvimento de atletas e com equipes do mais alto nvel, sempre disputando os ttulos das principais competies nacionais e internacionais.

No masculino, como no se lembrar de equipes como Srio, Corinthians e Palmeiras que travavam grandes duelos nas dcadas de 50 e 60. Nas dcadas de 70 Srio e Monte Lbano dividiam as atenes com conquistas memorveis.

Isto sem falar do interior com Franca, Piracicaba, Rio Claro, Bauru, Limeira, So Caetano, Santo Andr e Ribeiro Preto (no masculino).

So far, in the Periconi, LLC Environmental Law Blog, we've discussed what to do before you purchase a contaminated property (see here) and what to do after you've purchased a contaminated property (see here), but there is a step that often takes place in between – i.e., between contract signing the closing on the purchase – that may be triggered by the results of your Phase I Environmental Site Assessment ("ESA"): the invasive Phase II ESA investigation.

In this blog post, we'll summarize what a Phase II ESA is, when it is needed, and we'll highlight recent changes made to the ASTM standards that guide Phase IIs.

Beyond the performance of the Phase I ESA as absolutely required, with very specific requirements in both the ASTM standard and in the EPA "all appropriate inquiries" standard, environmental professionals have had somewhat different approaches as to what the next step should be as part of "due diligence" – do you do a first-cut "subsurface investigation" that gives you some more information but is often insufficient to determine the full scope of remediation required, or do you undertake a Phase II ESA, which might (or might not) provide more than a subsurface investigation?

I've seen family members fight here because someone wanted to give them money, and they won't take it. I've been to many stores, and when they realize I'm American, and that I now live in Egypt, they will refuse to take my money the first time I shop there.

Recently I went to get a new pair of boots and the older gentleman who owns the store tried to give me back the 95 pounds I gave him (a lot of money here). My niece told me, if they do this in a store like that, don't take the money back as apparently this is a way of saying that they really like you and it's a compliment to them that you shopped in their store. They probably would not think this again about you if you took the money back. If too much change is given on the bus, they will fight about giving it back to the driver as no one will take it back.

Digital Equipment founder Ken Olsen was one of the smartest people ever to grace the tech landscape. Yet seemingly every recollection of his legacy makes sure to cite his dumbest quote.

"There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in his home," Olsen told a meeting of the World Future Society in Boston in 1977.

Though Olsen would later claim that the quote was misinterpreted, it's since acquired the status of punch line, an eternal shorthand summation for corporate cluelessness.

What a shame. Long after it became clear to everyone that the PC was thoroughly revolutionizing business, I interviewed Olsen. He was a charming and gracious man who was kind enough not to take off my head when I second-guessed him.
